Top Ten Poker Tells
 |
In the game of poker you can have a lot of fun when you win. Sometimes winning isn't possible, but that also makes the game more of a challenge. If you are playing to win you might want to consider poker strategies and poker tells. Below we have a list of poker tells that could help you read the other individuals at the table. Don't forget to play your hand when you look for tells though. You don't want to place too much concentration on faking out the other players so that you end up losing more than winning.
1. The eyes are the number one area to look for tells. Have you noticed a lot on the WSOP live shows as well as other live poker tournaments that many players wear sunglasses? This is because the eyes can be a huge tell. Sometimes you can't hide what is in your eyes. You probably know that tests have been completed on lying. If someone's eyes are to the lower left it means they are lying. The eyes can tell secrets if you know where and how to look.
2. Facial expressions are another area of tells. We all like to believe we can hide our reactions, but not always. Some poker players have a very readable face.
3. Players like to be actors even when they are professional poker players. Strategy is sometimes about bluffing and when the player makes you believe they have a weak hand it is probably strong, where as strong plays mean weak hands. This is not always the case, but don't let the acting get to you.
4. Confusion or confrontation means anxiety is at play. Look for anxiety; it is a good weapon to recognise and exploit.
5. Trembling hands can mean that the player is nervous due to a big hand or being out of money that they should never have wagered.
6. If a player glances at their chips after a flop it could mean they have a hand and are planning their strategy to win.
7. Some players will constantly peek at their cards, especially after a flop; this can be another type of tell.
8. Repetitive betting patterns can lead to tells such as how they will play the game in a particular situation.
9. Body language and attitude are tells. If a shoulder drops, hair is twirled, or even arms folded it can be a sign that they are worried about a hand or have a good hand.
10. Chip stacking is another determiner. An organised mind will lead to a more professional player that is definitely concentrating on the game. Disorganised often means an aggressive player, who may not be the best.
If other players have tells, you must accept that you do as well. You need to recognize what a tell is for another player, and you don't want to be wrong or you could lose big. The best thing to do is bet on your hand.
